The Fragrance Concentration Guide

The Fragrance Concentration Guide

Fragrance comes in several concentrations, each offering a different balance of scent intensity, longevity and overall feel. While there are general ranges for each category, formulas can vary from one fragrance house to another - so think of concentration as a guide, not a rule.

A higher concentration can mean a richer or longer-lasting fragrance, but it doesn't necessarily make a scent stronger, more beautiful or more suited to you. The formula, notes, skin chemistry and how you wear it all play a role in discovering your favorite scent.

    Parfum / Extrait

    Parfum / Extrait

    The richest concentration.
    Industry standard: 20-40% oil concentration.

With the highest concentration of fragrance materials, Parfum tends to feel deep, smooth and highly concentrated, with a longer-lasting presence on skin. The higher concentration of oils interact with your body warmth for a scent that develops throughout the day. A little can go a long way.

    Eau de Parfum

    Eau de Parfum

    Rich, balanced and versatile.
    Industry standard: 15-20% oil concentration.

Eau de Parfum offers a higher concentration than Eau de Toilette, often giving the fragrance a fuller feel and longer wear. It’s one of the most popular concentrations for everyday fragrance.

    Eau de Toilette

    Eau de Toilette

    Lighter, brighter and effortless.
    Industry standard: 5-15% oil concentration.

With less fragrance concentration than an Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette often feels fresher and more transparent on skin. An easy choice for daytime, warmer weather or anyone who prefers a lighter scent.

    Eau de Cologne

    Eau de Cologne

    Fresh, light and fleeting.
    Industry standard: 3-8% oil concentration.

Traditionally made with a lower concentration of fragrance materials, Eau de Cologne is known for its refreshing, airy character and shorter wear time. It's often associated with bright citrus and aromatic notes.

    Eau Fraîche

    Eau Fraîche

    The lightest touch.
    Industry standard: 1-3% oil concentration.

Eau Fraîche contains a very low concentration of fragrance materials and typically offers a subtle, refreshing scent. Think of it as a quick, easy spritz when you want just a hint of fragrance.
